Less commercials, more grit and Shakespeare: TNT 2016 Upfronts

TNT Shakespeare series Will

When TNT execs said they were going less procedural with their rebranding strategy earlier this year they weren’t kidding. While Rizzoli & Isles begins its final season starting June 6, what follows is an explosive lineup that will make any granny, hooked on TNT police procedural, blush. TNT announced to advertisers at Turner’s 2016 Upfronts their slate of original programming for next year, which includes an unconventional, hip and edgy, period drama on William Shakespeare titled — simply — Will. “The word is out before we have even premiered our first show: We’re reaching for something special — taking creative … Continue reading

Cocaine, condoms and Europe? Yep, it's part of The Detour!

If you haven’t caught on to The Detour on TBS yet, it’s not too late. The comedy series from Jason Jones and Samantha Bee is honestly one of THE FUNNIEST shows on TV today (it got a second season pickup almost immediately). The series airs tonight on TBS at 9pmET. Tonight’s episode, “The Road,” finds  Nate (Jason Jones) and Robin (Natalie Zea) taking a trip down memory lane. While stuck in traffic on their family road trip from hell, the couple share differing stories on how they met to their more than attentive children. Funniest Mom Ever: The Detour’s Natalie Zea talks Debbie Reynolds, cars and breast milk?

The Detour's Natalie Zea

That didn’t just happen. Yep, she ate all of those pot-laced gummy bears and left her husband naked at the Swift Stays Suite pool. That’s the loopy, making-the-best-of-this-road-trip-gone-bad Robin Parker, whose questionable parenting — combined with such sincere explanations — make her one of the funniest moms on TV today. Natalie Zea is comic gold as Robin in the TBS breakout comedy The Detour (Mondays 9pm ET). The series comes from comedy’s new powerhouse couple Jason Jones and Samantha Bee and is achingly hilarious. The former Justified star (she played Raylan Givens’ love interest Winona) and The Following (she was Joe … Continue reading

Look at some amazing RVs, and the people who drive them in Going RV

Look at some amazing RVs, and the people who drive them in Going RV

Several years ago our former publisher did the whole bucket-list checkoff thing and rented an RV so he (along with his wife and three big dogs) could set out on a Midwest mini-roadtrip over the Thanksgiving holiday. Man, we were in awe — I mean how cool to finally rent one of those things and take to the open roads — and props to him for just having the guts to even drive that thing. While the stories that came out of that disastrous adventure could have been straight out of a National Lampoon movie (and could still support a … Continue reading

New to On Demand: Ride Along 2

New to On Demand: Ride Along 2

Ice Cube and Kevin Hart rekindle their comic chemistry in Ride Along 2, the sequel to the 2014 action-comedy Ride Along. While the smart cop/bumbling cop movie formula is all too familiar, the humor in this go-round is still centered around Hart and his shenanigans but is enhanced by an unusually diverse supporting cast that includes The Hangover’s Ken Jeong, The View’s Sherri Shepherd and Magic Mike’s Olivia Munn. A few things have changed since we last left the reluctant duo. James (Ice Cube) is still a hardcore detective at his Atlanta precinct and Ben Barber (Hart) … well, Ben … Continue reading

Soderbergh's new "The Girlfriend Experience" debuts tonight

Starz’s new steamy thinker The Girlfriend Experience is a reimagining of executive producer Steven Soderbergh’s 2009 film of the same name. The half-hour series stars the daring and beautiful Riley Keough (a.k.a. Elvis’ 26-year-old granddaughter) as Christine Reade, a second-year law student who is drawn into the world of a GFE (a girlfriend experience) or, more simply, a girl for hire who serves the needs of whatever her high-paying clients desire (sex or no sex). Keough describes her character as being somewhat void of emotion. “She’s not into intellectualizing her emotions, as she doesn’t really care about a lot of … Continue reading
