Lifetime’s Custody brings together powerhouse performances when the lives of an immigrant mother, her lawyer and a family court judge intersect through the complexities of the legal system’s attempt to serve in the best interest of children. And for the film’s three actresses, the story of a mother’s love hit close to home.

Academy Award-winner Viola Davis stars in and executive produces the film, and confidently reveals her reaction when she was approached about the project, recalling, “I said, ‘Let me read it because I know a great script when I read it.’ And it was a great script. The characters were very much realized. The situation, for me, was very heart-racing, maybe because I have a child, and I am a mother.”

The maternal desire to protect one’s family also tugged on the heartstrings of Nashville star and Golden Globe nominee Hayden Panettiere. She says, “I really wanted to play a character where I could show my daughter this film later on in life and have her be proud of it. It’s a very female-driven story, and there’s not always a lot of very strong females to play.”

“As a Latin actress, it’s difficult to find something that you’re so passionate about,” shares Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace), who felt the tug of playing a mother facing the loss of parental custody. “I’ve never had to fight for my kid or anything else, but I could see that reality in this script.”
