It’s been a good week or so of announcements at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour for superstar singer Mariah Carey. Last week, Carey was extravagantly on hand at a panel for her new E! reality series, Mariah’s World, coming to the entertainment network in December. And today at TCA, FOX announced that the musical icon will be guest-starring and performing in an episode of the network’s hit music drama Empire during its upcoming third season.

According to FOX, Mariah Carey will play Kitty, “a mega-superstar who comes to Empire to collaborate with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on an explosive new song. When the duet encounters obstacles, Kitty helps Jamal dig deep to overcome personal difficulties and reach a musical breakthrough.”

Carey joins already-announced Empire Season 3 guest stars Taye Diggs, Sierra McClain, rapper French Montana and music mogul Birdman, who plays himself.

No word yet on what Mariah Carey will be performing on Empire. The singer is currently about to begin the second half of her critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency, “Mariah #1 to Infinity,” which starts at Caesars Palace later this month. She’ll then head to Latin America this fall with her “Sweet Sweet Fantasy” tour that hits Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico.

Empire Season 3 premieres Sept. 21 at 9pm ET/PT on FOX. Mariah Carey’s guest appearance on Empire will be in the episode airing Oct. 5 at 9pm ET/PT.
