The awards were handed out in a private ceremony held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Aug. 6 as part of the group’s summertime press tour. The winners were chosen by the over 220 journalist members of the TCA after an open nomination period.

This year’s ceremony was hosted by Jane the Virgin star Jaime Camill, and awards were presented in categories including Comedy, Drama, News and Information, Reality, Youth and TV Movies. The nominees for the 2016 TCA awards were announced June 22, and unlike other industry awards, actors and actresses face off in individual acting categories, and the winners are notified in advance. Legendary comedian Lily Tomlin was awarded a Career Achievement Award for her work that includes Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, Murphy Brown, The Magic School Bus and Grace and Frankie. And The Mary Tyler Moore Show was also awarded the organization’s prestigious Heritage Award.
