Creator of Lizzie McGuire Returns With Disney Channel’s New Show Andi Mack

Terri Minsky, the creator of Disney Channel’s hit show Lizzie McGuire, returns to the tween and family friendly network with her new show Andi Mack. Growing up watching Lizzie McGuire, I couldn’t help suppress my inner 12-year-old-self excitement about this announcement. The series begins production in the fall and is scheduled for a 2017 premiere on Disney Channel.

Twelve-year-old newcomer Peyton Elizabeth Lee stars in the leading role, as Andi Mack. It’s a single-camera family series that focuses on Andi as she is about to celebrate her 13th birthday. Her life becomes more complicated, however, when her older sister Bex (Lilian Bowden, Zombie Apocalypse) returns home. The cast also includes Lauren Tom (The Joy Luck Club) as Andi’s mother, Joshua Rush (Mr. Peabody and Sherman) as Cyrus and newcomer Asher Angel as Jonah Beck.

Adam Bonnett, executive vice president of original programming, made the announcement about the show today and said, “When Terri created Lizzie McGuire, she helped put Disney Channel on the map with a character that our audience could identify with and we look forward to introducing ‘Andi’ to a new generation of kids and tweens.” If Minsky’s show is anything like her previous work, it definitely will not disappoint.
