Independence Day 2016 TV programming

The celebration of America’s 240th birthday falls on a Monday in 2016, so that means that a number of lucky people may be enjoying a three- or even four-day weekend. Aside from the usual outdoor activities many might be partaking in, there are, as usual, plenty of TV programs, movies and marathons to enjoy. Here are a few notable ones.

FOX & Friends All-American Summer Concert Series — July 1 at 6am on Fox News Channel. Trace Adkins performs today, singing his new single “Lit” for the first time.

Wimbledon Tennis: Early Rounds — July 1 live at 7am on ESPN

Tanked Marathon — July 1 from 9am-11pm on Animal Planet. 

Ancient Aliens Marathon — July 1 from 12pm-11pm on History.

World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational — July 1 at 1:30pm on Golf Channel.

Soccer: Euro 2016 Quarterfinal: Wales vs. Belgium — July 1 live at 2:30pm on ESPN2

NASCAR XFINITY Series Firecracker 250 — July 1 at 7:30pm on NBCSN.

WWII in the Pacific Marathon — July 1 from 8pm-12am on American Heroes Channel.

FOX & Friends Saturday — July 2 at 6am on Fox News Channel. Correspondent Lea Gabrielle reports live on board the USS Arleigh Burke in Norfolk, VA, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the commissioning of the ship.

103rd Tour de France: Stage 1 (Mont-Saint-Michel to Utah Beach) — July 2 live at 6am on NBCSN.

Wimbledon Tennis: Early Rounds — July 2 live at 8am on ESPN

The Revolution Marathon — July 2 from 8am-5pm on History.

John Wayne Marathon — July 2 from 10am-9pm on AMC. A day of movies starring The Duke, including The War Wagon and El Dorado.

NCIS Marathon — July 2 from 10am-11pm on USA Network.

World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational — July 2 at 12pm on Golf Channel; 2pm on CBS.

Outlander Marathon — July 2 beginning at 12pm on Starz.

Soccer: Euro 2016 Quarterfinal: Germany vs. Italy — July 2 at 2:30pm on ESPN2.

Mountain Monsters Marathon — July 2 from 4pm-12am on Destination America.

MLB Baseball: Chicago Cubs at New York Mets, Cincinnati at Washington or L.A. Angels at Boston — July 2 live at 7pm on FOX.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coke Zero 400 — July 2 at 8pm on NBC.

MLB Baseball: New York Yankees at San Diego — July 2 live at 10pm on FS1.

Planet Earth Marathon — July 3 from 2am-9pm on BBC America.

FOX & Friends Sunday — July 3 at 6am on Fox News Channel. The show is live from Fort Bragg, NC, for a Salute to the Troops baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins, the first regular-season game played at a military installation. Abby Huntsman will also report live from Nashville for a behind-the-scenes look at the Grand Ole Opry.

The Walking Dead Marathon — July 3 from 7am-8pm on AMC.

Formula One Austrian Grand Prix — July 3 at 7:30am on CNBC.

103rd Tour de France: Stage 2 (Saint-Lô to Cherbourg) — July 3 live at 7:30am ET on NBCSN.

Secrets of the Founding Fathers — July 3 at 9am on History. Investigates the history and symbology so prominent in the creation of the United States, and traces the intricate connections of the Founders with Freemasonry, other secret organizations and between each other.

Beach Boys Marathon — July 3 beginning at 10am on AXS TV. The marathon features the 2012 documentary The Beach Boys 50 — Doin’ It Again, the miniseries The Beach Boys: An American Family and the concert special The Beach Boys 50 — Live in Concert.

Sons of Liberty Marathon — July 3 from 11am-5pm on History. History’s 2015 dramatic miniseries about America’s Founding Fathers.

Law & Order: SVU Marathon — July 3 from 11am-10pm on USA Network.

World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational — July 3 at 12pm on Golf Channel; 2pm on CBS.

MLB Baseball: Fort Bragg Game: Miami vs. Atlanta — July 3 at 8pm on ESPN.

Legends & Lies: The Patriots: “General George Washington — Commanding Revolution” — July 3 at 8pm on Fox News Channel. This episode tells the story of George Washington struggling with the challenges of building a military force from untested colonial militia and limited supplies. It also sheds light on the Continental Army’s first victory and how members of Washington’s own personal guard secretly plotted to kill him. 

College Home Run Derby — July 3 at 8:30pm on ESPN2.

Annual 4th of July Twilight Zone Marathon — From July 3 at 11:30pm though July 4. Click here for this year’s schedule of episodes.

Independence Day Military Marathon — July 4 beginning at 3:15am on Sony Movie Channel. Titles include The Last DetailBat 21Casualties of War and more.

FOX & Friends — July 4 at  6am on Fox News Channel. Abby Huntsman takes a tour of a honky tonk in Nashville, and talks with locals to find out what makes them a proud American. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County, NY, will also perform patriotic songs throughout the morning on the plaza in New York City.

Celebrate the West — July 4 beginning at 6am on HDNet Movies. A day of All-American Western movie favorites, beginning with The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, and also including Bad Day at Black RockCimarron and more.

Wimbledon Tennis: Round of 16 — July 4 at 7am on ESPN2; 8am on ESPN.

NCIS Marathon — July 4 beginning at 7am on USA Network.

103rd Tour de France: Stage 3 (Granville to Angers) — July 4 live at 7:30am ET on NBCSN.

Red, White and Rock Marathon — July 4 beginning at 8am on AXS TV. Some of America’s most iconic musical artists are celebrated in a marathon of concert specials featuring Aerosmith, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty, Cheap Trick, Styx, Chicago, REO Speedwagon and more.

America: The Story of Us Marathon — July 4 from 8am-8pm on History.

Bizarre Foods Marathon — July 4 from 8am-10pm on Travel Channel.

Fourth of July Music Marathon — July 4 from 9am-2pm on RFD-TV. RFD-TV offers five hours of inspirational programming, beginning with a four-part patriotic special called Country’s Family Reunion: God Bless America, which includes highlights such as Lee Greenwood singing “God Bless the USA,” Daryle Singletary performing “America” and more. Coming to America Marathon — July 4 beginning at 10:19am on Comedy Central. Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones and John Amos star in the 1988 comedy classic about an African prince who runs off before his arranged marriage and comes to New York City to find a wife. Comedy Central airs the movie four times in a row as part of its “U.S. Hey! Weekend” celebration.

Patriots Rising: The American Revolution Marathon — July 4 from 11am-5pm on American Heroes Channel.

Untold Stories of the ER Marathon — July 4 from 12pm-12am on TLC.

Jaws-a-thon — July 4 from 1pm-4:15am on AMC. Marathon showings of JawsJaws 2Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge.

100th Annual Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest — July 4 at 3pm on ESPN. Competitive eaters descend upon Coney Island’s famous boardwalk for an all-American eating competition. In 10 frenetic, food-filled minutes, contestants choke down as many hot dogs and buns as possible in hopes of winning the men’s bejeweled mustard yellow belt or the ladies’ pink bejeweled belt. Fans can also watch the event live at 12pm ET on streaming service ESPN3, or catch other rebroadcasts of the event on ESPN2.

MLB Baseball: Colorado at San Francisco — July 4 at 4pm on ESPN.

The Revolutionary War Marathon — July 4 beginning at 5pm on American Heroes Channel.

Back to the Future Trilogy Marathon — July 4 beginning at 5pm on Discovery Family Channel; re-airs July 5 at 1:30pm.

The Five — July 4 at 5pm on Fox News Channel. This Fourth of July special focuses on what makes Americans proud.

The Simpsons Fourth of July Event — July 4 from 6pm-12am on FXX. A marathon of Simpsons episodes in which the family travels the USA.

Idris Elba: No Limits — July 4 from 7pm-11pm on Discovery Channel. The actor hosts a new racing series on Discovery Channel.

MLB Baseball: Detroit at Cleveland — July 4 at 7pm on ESPN.

American Pickers Marathon — July 4 from 8pm-4am on History.

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular — July 4 live at 8pm on NBC; recap special at 10pm. The 40th annual event illuminates the sky over New York City, with the 2016 celebration including more than 56,000 pyrotechnic effects. The 25-minute synchronized display will feature an explosive version of skywriting created using fireworks that spell out “USA” in the night sky, and it will all be choreographed to a soaring, patriotic score performed by the United States Air Force band and Jennifer Holliday. Also performing during the special are Sara Bareilles, Pitbull, Kenny Chesney, 5 Seconds of Summer, Meghan Trainor and the Radio City Rockettes.

A Capitol Fourth 2016 — July 4 live at 8pm on PBS; replay at 9:30pm. Tom Bergeron returns as host of this event, airing live from the U.S. Capitol. Performers will include Smokey Robinson, Kenny Loggins, Gavin DeGraw, Cassadee Pope, Amber Riley, Jackie Evancho, Sutton Foster and Christopher Jackson, who plays George Washington in the smash-hit Broadway musical Hamilton. The concert will also feature special segments celebrating the 75th anniversary of the USO and the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular — July 4 live at 9pm on CBS (tape-delayed PT). Nancy O’Dell hosts this event, broadcast live from the Charles River Esplanade in Boston. Performers include Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas and Little Big Town, accompanied by the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra under the direction of conductor Keith Lockhart.

Yankee Doodle Dandy — July 4 at 10:45pm on TCM.

1776 — July 4 at 1am (late-night) on TCM.
