Even though all of the anagrams from the second half of the season have been decoded, Blindspot still left us with a lot of mysteries to solve.

Frankly, I’m still reeling from last week’s episode. It’s hard to imagine that this show would have anything left in the tank after all of those bombshells, but here we are. In the season finale, “Why Await Life’s End,” we got to see Weller’s childhood home, Oscar’s apartment, and a sneak peek at Orion. Ready for the recap?

The twenty-third episode begins with a shot of Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) — just as naked as when we first met her. She’s showering, trying to wash off the blood that poured out of Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste). Meanwhile, Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) is having his own flashbacks about his Bill’s confession.

Weller leaves the FBI office to see Jane, but she’s busy breaking into Oscar’s (Francois Arnaud) place. How did she know where he lives? At the FBI, Allie is asking the rest of the crew about Mayfair’s whereabouts. Of course, no one knows she’s bleeding in a basement somewhere.

Weller confronts Sarah about the confession. She seems reluctant, but Weller says he needs to see what’s under the fort at their childhood home. Road trip!

Meanwhile, Jane seeks out Ana Montes (Aimee Carrero), the hacker from episode 6. She needs Ana to trace a phone number. It’s the number for Hobbes (Franklin Ojeda Smith), the “Joey’s Pizza” guy.

Zapata (Audrey Esparza) and Reade (Rob Brown) go in search of Mayfair. They show up at the scene of the crime, where Reade uses his eagle eyes to spot a shell casing. The two decide to trust no one — except Patterson (Ashley Johnson), of course. She comes in and determines that there was a lot of blood on the floor.

Jane tracks down Hobbes and starts spying on him from inside a mobile home, but he figures it out and triggers gas inside the vehicle. She jumps out of a window and recovers, but the pizza man pulls a gun on her. She tells the guy that Cade is alive and well… and possibly tailing Oscar. Hobbes sends her off to meet someone named Roman and get to safety. Instead, she goes back to Ana looking for more help.

Back at the FBI, Patterson tries to match the floor blood with their database. Reade tells her about the whole thing with Carter’s murder. She freaks out about being kept in the dark. The three agree to trust one another. Patterson then says, “Let’s get back to committing numerous felonies.” I love her!

Yeah, yeah, yeah… so what the heck is under the fort? NOTHING! Weller is so relieved that he immediately calls Jane and leaves her a message. He mentions Bill’s death and says he just wanted to hear her voice. He also calls her Taylor. Maybe that was a bit premature, though…

Even Jane can’t worry about her identity right now. She’s tailing Oscar. And the closer she gets, the more flashbacks she seems to have. She catches up with Oscar inside a barn, where she sees what appears to be Mayfair’s body covered up. Then, Oscar tases her.

Patterson informs Reade and Zapata that the blood did belong to Mayfair. The three decide to break into her apartment to look for clues. Patterson finds Mayfair’s safe and the three manage to crack the code. Inside, there’s a USB thumb drive.

While celebrating with his sister, Weller goes for a back-up six-pack in the garage and spots a tent in his father’s garage. Well, maybe it’s more of a fort. Weller drives out to a campground he remembered from his childhood. He starts to dig (again).

When Jane wakes up, she realizes Oscar has her tied to a chair. Because of their relationship, he says he needs to wipe her memory clean (again). She begs for him to stop, but he mentions how this is Shepherd’s mission — and she was never Taylor Shaw. Just as he announces this, we see Weller dig up a little girl’s boot, with a bone inside.

Oscar explains that they switched the DNA samples to make it seem like she was Taylor Shaw. He also says it was Jane’s idea to be called Taylor. He says she needed to assume that identity to be closer to Weller, especially once he took Mayfair’s job. He also explains how Chow was supposed to die, why Marcos (the bearded man) had to die, and how Marcos didn’t give Jane a big enough dose of ZIP — which is why she’s constantly having those flashbacks.

Oscar also tells Jane that he loves her. He’s about to fill her with ZIP, when Jane headbutts him causing Oscar to stumble. A fire breaks out. She wants to arrest him, but he’s not going down without a fight. The two pummel each other and Jane accidentally sticks him with an axe. She then runs out of the barn, leaving Oscar and Mayfair’s remains to burn.

Jane makes her way to Oscar’s truck. She digs through the back and finds a can of spray paint. She paints on the side for the truck, “For Marcos.” Is she framing Cade or just trying to clear herself?

Meanwhile, Patterson, Reade, and Zapata discover that the code to get into the USB drive is I’M SORRY. On the drive, they find info about Orion, Daylight, and something labeled M7G677. They go for the Orion folder first and about a million different documents open up.

At the end of the episode, Jane returns home to find Weller waiting for her. He confronts her about her identity. He even shows her Taylor’s favorite doll, which he found along with her body. “Taylor Shaw is dead,” he says. “And who the hell are you?” He pulls a gun on her. She starts to cry and he arrests her.

Wow! This was another great episode, Blindspotters. I didn’t necessarily think it was as exciting as the last one, but it left a lot to cover in season 2. First of all, no more Oscar? Boo! And who is Jane Doe exactly? Will Weller ever be able to trust her again? Also, will the phase two that Oscar mentioned still go on as planned? Sound off with your theories in the comments section below… and thanks for following along with me this season!

  1. One doubt –

If real Taylor was dead at the age of something 5-6 years.
and no one knows that she is dead and where her body is buried.
Then the fact of her having a scar behind her neck must be between Kurt’s family and Taylor’s family.
Then how does these guys (Shepherd and team) come to know bout the scar ?

Is it possible that someone close to Kurt is with Shepherd and team ?

    My bet – Sarah Weller

  2. Why is this poorly acted and weak scripted show still on the air? The only series that is worse than this is “The Blacklist”. Texas rising would be on the list but it’s not a series. A breathtaking wild ride? For a 12 year old maybe. Not a single actor in this miserable phony “spy” series is believable in their part.

  3. Absolutely a breathtaking, wild ride with more twists and turns and stomach-jarring free falls than a rollercoaster! Can’t wait to see what they come up with in season 2 (though I’m not sure about moving the show to 8PM on Wed – isn’t that kinda early?) and September can’t come soon enough!
