This morning at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Craig Erwich, head of content for Hulu discussed how the streaming service is adding to its ever-growing media library and increasing its original programming stable with several intriguing new projects.

First, he announced that Hulu is becoming the streaming home of Viacom properties, and will be adding new series like Last Man on Earth and Fear the Walking Dead. He announced a new distribution deal with Epix as well as an agreement with Sony, which will add all episodes of series including The Shield, Party of Five, Dawson’s Creek and a vast movie catalogue.

Erwich announced the development of two new series. Shuteye, from creator, Les Bowman, a dark and comedic look at storefront psychics and the crime syndicates that controls them. Jeffrey Donovan will be the lead the lead.

The second new project, a psychological thriller Change, will star Hugh Laurie. Lenny Abrahamson, the director of Room, will direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer.

Erwich calls Hulu’s slate of programming “Ambitious” and says the network is proud of “letting the shows talk for us.”

With that in mind, Erwich announced that a trio of veteran show creators, Rob Thomas, Anthony E. Zuiker and Darren Star would talk about how streaming their shows (on Hulu) has given their shows new life, and allows their series to find new audiences.


Erwich also talked about the President’s Day (Feb. 15) premiere of 11/22/65, an 8-part historical thriller based on the book by Stephen King in which High school teacher travels back in time to prevent the assassination to President Kennedy. JJ Abrams and Stephen King serve as executive producers. James Franco, Chris Cooper, Sarah Gadon, Josh Duhamel, T.R. Knight and Daniel Webber star.

Another new series premiering March 30, is The Path. The drama follows a family that is connected to a cult, a “Movement.” The series is a blend of mystery-thriller, romance and mysticism. The series is created by Jessica Goldberg, who will EP along with Jason Katims and stars Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan, Rockmond Dunbar and Hugh Dancy.
