A handful of Major League Baseball teams who’ve grown accustomed to starting their offseasons in October will have to change their plans this year. You won’t hear any complaining.

With the longest current playoff drought, the Toronto Blue Jays have their first trip to the postseason since they won consecutive World Series in 1992-93. The resurgent Houston Astros will reach the playoffs for the first time since losing the 2005 World Series. Avoiding the epic September collapses of 2007-08, the New York Mets will see their first playoff action since 2006. The painful rebuilding is reaping rewards as the Chicago Cubs won an NL a wild-card spot and their first playoff trip since 2008.

In the American League, the division winners are Toronto, the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers. AL wild-card teams are the New York Yankees and Houston.

In the NL, the Mets captured the East, the St. Louis Cardinals cruised to a crown in the Central and the Los Angeles Dodgers barely broke a sweat in the West. The NL wild-card showdown has the Cubs visiting the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The postseason begins with the wild-card games Oct. 6 (ESPN) in the AL and Oct. 7 (TBS) in the NL. Division Series begin Oct. 8 with FOX, FOX Sports 1 and MLB Network airing the ALDS and TBS airing the NLDS. FOX and FOX Sports 1 air the AL Championship Series beginning Oct. 16, while TBS begins coverage of the NL Championship Series the following night. FOX again airs the World Series, which begins Oct. 27 at the home park of the AL champion and would end Nov. 4 if the series goes seven games.
