Corner the market: NASCAR returns to NBC July 4th weekend

2016 Daytona Speedweeks

NASCAR on NBC

In a short amount of time, NBC Sports has filled out its front row with the big three auto-racing leagues. NBCSN (then Versus) began its IndyCar coverage in 2009, then picked up Formula One rights starting in 2013. This month, NBC is back in the NASCAR game for the first time since 2006, effectively making its networks the top destinations for race fans and giving NASCAR a cross-promotional boost with NBC’s Sunday primetime NFL games.

As part of a 10-year, $4.4 billion deal, NBC Sports airs the last 20 Sprint Cup races each season, including all of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup playoffs, through 2024. NBC will air the Sprint Cup season finale at Homestead-Miami, putting the race on over-the-air TV for the first time since 2009. The second half of the XFINITY Series season also goes to NBC/NBCSN. (Camping World Truck Series races remain a FOX Sports property.) The deal also includes online and mobile streaming rights and Spanish-language coverage on Telemundo and NBC Universo.

Veteran broadcasters have signed on to NBC’s NASCAR coverage, with race announcer Rick Allen joined by analysts Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte. Krista Voda hosts prerace and postrace shows with analysts Kyle Petty and Dale Jarrett. Reporting from pit road are Marty Snider, Kelli Stavast, Mike Massaro and Dave Burns.

  1. Yeah right, I am going to spend hours watching cars go round and round an oval track while I drink myself blind? Hey sounds like fun, I am in! Yeehaw!
