Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, Bob Dylan, Eddie Vedder are David Letterman’s final guests

CBS announced the final guests for David Letterman’s final week of shows, which the network says will be a “three-night event” May 18-20. Not surprisingly, Bill Murray — who was Letterman’s first guest ever on both Late Night and Late Show — will make an appearance on the penultimate episode. Tom Hanks and musician Eddie Vedder will also appear during the final week, with the May 20 final episode being described by CBS as “an hour filled with surprises, memorable highlights, the show’s final Top Ten List and more.”

David Letterman has spent 33 years in late-night television, encompassing 6,028 broadcasts, nearly 20,000 total guest appearances, 16 Emmy Awards and more than 4,600 Top Ten Lists, according to CBS.

David Letterman Final Guests — Week of May 18

Monday, May 18: Actor Tom Hanks makes his 60th total appearance with Letterman. Hanks first appeared on Late Night April 4, 1984. Tonight, rock star Eddie Vedder will also make a special musical performance, backed, of course, by Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra.

Tuesday, May 19: Bill Murray, who will be making his 44th overall appearance with Dave, and was Letterman’s first guest on both Late Night (Feb. 1, 1982) and Late Show (Aug. 30, 1993), visits his old friend tonight. As you can tell from the above photo of Murray making a November 2009 visit to Dave, anything can happen when Murray drops by.

UPDATE 5/15/15: Bob Dylan has been announced as a performer on the May 19 show, making a rare television appearance. This will be Dylan’s first appearance on Late Show in nearly 22 years. Dylan was previously on Late Show Nov. 18, 1993, during the show’s first season. He previously performed on Late Night twice, on March 22, 1984, and on Late Night‘s 10th anniversary show on Jan. 18, 1992.

Wednesday, May 20: David Letterman’s final Late Show broadcast seems like it wil be a fun and perhaps emotional look back, including highlights, as well as a final Top Ten List and other “surprises.”

Late Show With David Letterman airs at 11:35pm ET on CBS.
