Jane the Virgin Chapter 16 Recap: Who’s to Blame?

On Chapter Sixteen of Jane the Virgin, Jane seems to be focusing all her time and energy on how Rafael has changed since she turned down his proposal. He seems to be distancing himself from her, which would make any girlfriend upset — especially one who is pregnant with their boyfriend’s child. Jane tries to distract herself from her current relationship situation by getting back to her writing. Her romance novel seems to be off to a great start until Jane gets writer’s block. Luckily, Michael gives Jane the idea to join a writer’s workshop hosted by one of her favorite romance authors, Amanda Elaine.

I had my doubts with Rogelio and Xo actually moving in together but by the looks of it, they might actually prove me wrong. The two finally found the perfect house and expect to be moving in soon. Xo was surprised by her mother Alba’s reaction when she told her the news. Alba seemed to think the idea was fantastic rather than it possibly being another disaster-or so Xo thought. As Xo is sorting out her things in order to prepare for packing, Alba steps in the room, surprised to see all the commotion. Xo is confused and tells Alba that she mentioned her plans to move out already and thought Alba had given her blessing. Turns out that’s not exactly what Alba’s intentions were. Alba thought Xo was simply expressing another one of her crazy stories that would never come true. Now that it appears to be coming true, Alba can’t stand by her daughter in letting her move out with Rogelio. She thinks Xo will come crying back to her, but Xo wants to prove to her mother that she is a grown adult who can make this life decision on her own. Everyone needs their mother no matter their age, throughout their entire life but they may not realize it until they move out.

Aaron Zazo has a conversation with Michael about the discovery he made hidden inside his mother’s necklace. Aaron hands over the USB to Michael in order to decrypt it. Roman told Aaron about the USB before he died and told him that it was an insurance policy. Aaron believes this might hold the truth to who killed Zazo, too. Unfortunately all that the police were able to find is the name Tony Vaughn on the USB. It’s the only lead they have to hopefully connect all the murders.

Petra has the idea to use Rogelio’s fame in order to bring more people to the hotel. She’s a smart girl because I’m surprised no one else thought of this idea before. She sees that Rogelio is friends with Latin music sensation David Bisbal. If they could get David to perform at the hotel this would be the perfect way to gain more positive traffic to the hotel other than more deaths. Rafael is in charge of asking Rogelio and things are awkward between the two from the beginning. Rogelio seems to be very upset with Rafael to the point where he wants an apology versus being used for his fame. Apparently Rogelio wants Rafael to apologize for not asking his permission to marry Jane before he proposed. It does seem a bit weird for Rogelio to be mad at Rafael for this reason since Rafael has known Jane longer than her own father. Either way, Rafael mans up and apologizes in order to get David to perform.

Jane finally takes it upon herself to tell Rafael how she truly feels about the way he has been acting ever since the proposal. She tells him that she’s tired of Rafael pushing all the blame on her. It was his fault that he asked too soon. Everything was perfect between the two until he proposed and ruined everything. I’m glad Jane stood up for herself and told Rafael the truth. She felt like the bully in this situation only because Rafael made her feel that way.

Rafael then tells Jane that he knew how perfect everything was. For him, he wanted to make sure that this perfect life was secure and wouldn’t ever disappear. He wanted to make sure Jane would never leave him so he proposed to her. Jane lets Rafael know that she’ll never leave him. She also encourages Rafael to search for his mother like he had been thinking about doing recently. With Rafael’s family track record, I’m not so sure he’ll be ready for what he uncovers.

What were your thoughts on Chapter Sixteen of Jane the Virgin? Do you think Xo and Alba will be able to forgive each other before Xo moves out? I’m still not fully positive that Xo will move out with Rafael. What do you think the cops will be able to find in connection with Tony Vaughn? It seems odd that Aaron didn’t mention anything about Petra having the necklace, to Michael. Do you think Rafael was making Jane feel guilty for the way he was acting? Either way, the two were finally able to get their feelings out which was all they needed to do. For some reason it seems like communicating about their feelings is a hard subject to discuss. What do you think Rafael will discover about his mother? Leave your thoughts below.
