BBC America’s “Broadchurch” heads to court for Season 2

Broadchurch Season 2

Broadchurch, the haunting murder mystery that premiered on BBC America in 2013 (and was the basis for last year’s less successful FOX adaptation Gracepoint) returns for a new season on Wednesday, March 4, at 10pm ET/PT. Season 2 begins as the person charged with the killing of 11-year-old Danny Latimer faces trial. David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill reprise their roles. Newcomers to the cast include Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D’Arcy, Eve Myles and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

ITV in the U.K. has already commissioned a Season 3 for Broadchurch, so it’s very likely BBC America will be picking that up in the future.

SPOILER WARNING! In case you didn’t see Broadchurch Season 1, probably stop reading here. BBC America lists a few places you can watch Season 1 online.

Broadchurch Season 2 opens with a bombshell, as Joe Miller enters an unexpected plea in his trial. Ellie Miller (Colman) has moved on to a different job as a traffic cop, hoping to recover from the devastation her family suffered. Hardy (Tennant) remains in Broadchurch, and he’s caught up with a woman who was instrumental in the Sandbrook case that continues to haunt him. As Joe Miller faces trial, the opposing attorneys go to war over the validity of his confession and its admission as evidence.
