Branson Famous episode 6 recap: Ready or Not

This week’s episode of Branson Famous, entitled “Ready or Not,” features a boob job (well, talk about a boob job) and a marriage proposal (well, talk about a marriage proposal). I didn’t find it as funny as last week’s episode (“The Brangelina of Branson”) but it didn’t disappoint.

Branson Famous Episode 6 Breezy Insecure
If Breezy’s insecure about her chest, is that a B Flat?

Let’s start with the aforementioned breast augmentation (which sounds way nicer than “boob job,” but to be fair, I think “boob job” is the acutal term they used in the show). Breezy wants one. Backing up a bit here, I think it’s unfair that her parents named her Breezy, though I know it’s a nickname for something else (Brianna?). When you give someone a descriptive name like that, he or she almost never matches the name. Case in point: every woman named “Joy,” that I’ve ever met personally, has been the actual opposite of a joy to be around. (No offense to anyone reading this who is named Joy. I’m sure you are a delight to be around.) Breezy is the least breezy person on this show. She’s shy, she’s nervous, and she’s often sidelined in favor of other people, from what I’ve gathered. I feel awful for her, because I bet she has a ton of talent and she’s probably very sweet and smart. She probably could be quite breezy, but she’s not there yet—she just doesn’t have the confidence. But apparently she thinks that if she gets a breast augmentation, that confidence will come, and Patty seems to agree.

I’m sorry, I’ve jumped ahead here. We started tonight’s episode with Breezy complaining that she never gets a shot at anything, and asking Patty about doing a song in the cars show. Patty asks if Tim knows this is going to happen, and chides Breezy a little for not rehearsing more, but seems amenable to the plan, so all seems okay. Breezy’s going to get her shot! It’ll be great! She’ll be golden.

Nope.

Later in the show, we see Breezy practicing her song in front of Brandon and Patty. They’re not unkind, but they clearly don’t love it – especially Patty. Patty doesn’t think Breezy has the confidence to do the song and actually hopes she won’t follow through! When she asks Breezy if she’ll really follow through and do this song, Breezy breaks down in tears (real tears—not fake tears a la Megan), and tells Patty how jealous she is of her, Heather and Megan. She complains that she feels like a 12-year-old, and this is where she tells her mom she’s considering plastic surgery. (Is it just me, or does this married woman seem to be asking her mom for permission? Honey, if you’re old enough to be married, you’re old enough to exercise complete control over your chest. Just sayin’.)

Branson Famous Episode 6 Breezy Lacks Confidence
Breezy and Patty discuss Breezy’s lack of confidence

I won’t go further into my own feelings on this, because it’s her body and not my business (though I’ll argue it becomes everyone’s business once you put it on TV), but I will say that I’m a little miffed at how easily Patty agrees that this might be a good idea. I have a feeling this has been discussed before, off-camera, or that this won’t really ever happen.

This episode also features a bit more tension between Heather and Denton, and really, nobody’s helping here. It’s almost like the family is purposely creating this tension. (On reality TV? Really? But it’s unscripted! Ha.) Toward the beginning of the show, we see Patty grab Heather and tell her clandestinely that she and Tim have decided to feature Heather in another song – they call it “The Cowboy Song” (I think it’s Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”) – but nobody is going to tell Denton about Heather because he can’t handle it. He’ll get all weird, blah blah blah, so it’ll be a secret. Whoa. Wait a second. This all sounded okay-ish to me (“Yeah, he’ll just find out when he’s watching offstage and he might get a little miffed”) but it turns out this song is DENTON’S SONG.

Branson Famous Episode 6 Cowboy Song
“Ohhh, heeeyyyyyyy! Surprise.”

So he’s midway through singing it and who comes out onstage to sing with him, but Heather. (He was expecting Patty.) He’s pretty irritated afterward, and confronts Patty. She calmly blames TIM, and tells Denton that it was Tim’s decision and he should talk to him about it. It’s like 8th grade all over again here, you guys. Seriously?!

Later in the show, there’s a staff meeting where they discuss a photo shoot for The Baldknobbers Jamboree that’ll feature new costumes, and Heather, and it turns into a Whole Big Thing, as all family/staff meetings on reality tend to do. Denton mentons that the lines of communicaton don’t seem to be too open, and Brandon lashes out, and they spar about respect and responsibility, and all of that other good stuff. Tim chimes in, and I hope for more conflict (oooh, I do love conflict) but that’s about the last we see of Denton in this episode. (I kind of like Denton. I want to see more of him. Can we make that happen, truTV?)

Heather sings her “Little White Church” song in the show, and we see her afterward, talking to Patty and Megan, about how her boyfriend’s dad loves that song because he thinks there should be a proposal in the works. She mentions in a video confessional that she has been together with her boyfriend Dave for 7 years, and I can’t help but wonder why he’s never been so much as mentioned before.

Branson Famous Episode 6 Heather Dave
Heather wonders if Dave is really The One.

We meet Dave, strumming his guitar and practicing with Heather, getting all concerned about Denton and talking about forever. Dave wants forever. Heather doesn’t know if she wants forever. Singing confessional number 1: Heather doesn’t want to get married. She doesn’t want the suburban life, or the 9-to-5; she just wants country fame. This is one of the singing confessionals that for some reason makes me feel awkward and super-uncomfortable. It just seems too contrived.

Dave’s dad isn’t the only one talking about marriage proposals. Brandon goes to Megan’s parents’ house and asks for their blessing, since he’s planning to propose after 3 years of courtship. There’s edited-in tension (he talks about how difficult her dad can be, the mom says she’s a little caught off-guard, there’s dramatic music and a few of those tense camera shots) but I don’t buy it.

Branson Famous Episode 6 Proposal Blessing
He has their blessing. That wasn’t so bad, was it, Brandon?

The parents seem perfectly fine with all of this, and though dad is concerned that both Brandon and Megan have been married and divorced before, he’s cool with it. Everyone’s good with it in Megan’s family. Now, are Tim and Patty going to be on board?

Well, Tim says he’s on board. He tells Brandon during a game of putt-putt (or what we Wisconsinites call mini-golf) that he’s okay with Megan, but then they get into this whole argument about her. Tim doesn’t think that once Megan is married into the family she should get any ownership in, or even much say in, the show. This of course leads to tension. Tim points out that he and Patty had to work their way up (making brochures, working in concessions and the hotel) and they pretty much handed Brandon everything. This leads into the second and final singing confessional: Brandon singing about his dad. He’s trying to please his dad, while being his own man, and he needs to prove how important he is to the business. I give this singing confessional only 3 stars, but I’m still excited to see what happens next week when Brandon goes to pick out what I’m sure will be a gigantic rock for Megan’s ring finger!

  2. Word of advice to the writers—get your story straight. First, you have Megan admitting that she like to manipulate people, then you have her calling Heather manipulative. Then you have Brandon telling Heather that he doesn’t care for rock music (when he and Megan go see Heather’s show), then you have him and Denton talking about how they used to play rock music together after school. But the biggest problem is when they tell Heather her clothes are too sexy when Megan walks around in that purple hooker dress and we see Breezy having saline bags stuffed in her bra. Either these people are extremely hypocritical or they’re unaware that they’re being filmed and we’re seeing how they talk out of both sides of their mouths.

  3. Why do you make fun of breezy really b flat you suck you are the reson she has no confidence in the first place I think that she is perfect grow up
