This morning, actor Chris Pine, Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, and directors Alfonso Cuarón and J.J. Abrams announced the 2015 Oscar nominations. For the first time, all 24 categories were announced live, in a two-part news conference in Beverly Hills. Cuarón and Abrams announced the nominees in the following categories: Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Film Editing, Original Song, Production Design, Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects. After that, Pine and Boone Isaacs took the stage to unveil the nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Cinematography, Costume Design, Directing, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Adapted Screenplay, Original Screenplay and Best Picture.
Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel tied for the lead with nine nominations apiece, followed by The Imitation Game with eight nominations, and American Sniper and Boyhood with six each. Selma was surprisingly left out of most categories except Best Picture and Best Original Song, and, in another shock, The LEGO Movie was not nominated for Best Animated Feature.
Here the 2015 Oscar nominations. The awards will be presented in a ceremony hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and airing Feb. 22 live starting at 7pm ET on ABC.
