Craig Ferguson says farewell to late night

This week has proven bittersweet for fans of late night. Last night, Stephen Colbert ended his run on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, as he gears up to replace the retiring David Letterman sometime next year. But not getting nearly has much hype this week is Craig Ferguson ending his stint as host of CBS’ The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, which airs tonight.craig-ferguson

After nearly 10 years (Ferguson started the show on Jan. 3, 2005), Craig Ferguson announced his retirement from The Late Late Show back in April, a few weeks after Colbert was tapped by CBS to replace Letterman (some had postulated that Ferguson may have been an heir apparent to Letterman). Though he will no longer be on late night, Ferguson still remains a presence on television as host of the new syndicated game show Celebrity Name Game. The Late Late Show With James Corden, starring Ferguson’s replacement, British actor/writer James Corden, will debut on CBS March 9. In the meantime, after Ferguson’s departure on Dec. 19, the program will feature a rotating roster of guest hosts, according to Entertainment Weekly sources.

Craig Ferguson’s final Late Late Show guest will be Jay Leno, obviously no stranger to the late-night scene himself.

The final episode of The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson airs Dec. 19 at 12:37am ET/PT on CBS.
