From “Boy Meets World” To Man

Girl Meets World

Meets WorldThe buzz around Disney Channel’s new kid-com Girl Meets World has been feverish since the project was announced. Fans of its predecessor, Boy Meets World, are thrilled to revisit favorite characters Topanga (Danielle Fishel) and Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and meet their family. “We’re really excited to bring our show and our vision back to TV and hopefully people will like it,” says Savage. The highly anticipated show premieres June 27th after the Disney Channel Original Movie, Zapped, staring teen sensation Zendaya.

GIrl Meets WorldIn the sequel series, Cory and Topanga are no longer teen sweethearts; they’re parents to two children, tween daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and younger son Auggie (August Maturo). Riley is the “girl” at the center of the show’s “world,” and the show is about her as she navigates the perils and pitfalls of middle school. Riley will face many of the same challenges and choices that her parents faced a generation before, and she is aided by a nucleus of funny and interesting friends: best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and pals Farkle (Corey Fogelmanis) and Lucas (Peyton Meyer).

“Riley’s very similar to Cory Matthews,” Savage explains. “She’s eager to explore the world around her, she’s curious, she’s sweet, she’s a great person and she loves her family and friends.”

In the spinoff, Topanga is a lawyer and runs an after-school hangout that specializes in pudding while Cory is a history teacher — Riley’s history teacher.

Meets World“I think a role of a teacher is very fitting for him,” says Savage. “As a teacher, Cory is obviously doing his very best to emulate his own mentor, Mr. Feeny. Cory strives to impart some of the wisdom to his students that Mr. Feeny imparted into him.”

Former Boy Meets World cast members set to reprise their roles in either regular or guest spots include Mr. Feeny (William Daniels), Cory’s best friend Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong), Cory’s parents Amy (Betsy Randle) and Alan Matthews (William Russ), brother Eric Matthews (Will Friedle), lovable geek Stuart Minkus (Lee Norris) and resident bully Harley Keiner (Danny McNulty).
