Before his tragically young passing following the return of his drug addictions, Hoffman was one of the finest actors of his generation on stage and screen, able to completely transform himself into a variety of characters, fictional and real. He won a Best Actor Oscar for his 2005 performance in the title role of Capote, and received other Oscar nominations for Charlie Wilson’s War (2007, Supporting Actor); Doubt (2008, Supporting Actor); and The Master (2012, Supporting Actor).
