2014 State of the Union: Date, time, channels for President Obama address

President Barack Obama will deliver the annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, and the nation, on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 9pm ET. The president’s 2014 State of the Union address will be followed by the official Republican response from Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.).

Several TV and online outlets will have live coverage of the 2014 State of the Union. Here are some places to watch; all times listed are ET. Check back for updates as networks further announce their planned coverage:

ABC — ABC News will cover the 2014 State of the Union address from 9-10:30pm on Jan. 28.

Al Jazeera America — At 7pm on Jan. 28, Al Jazeera America will air a two-hour preview of the 2014 State of the Union address, featuring stories from around the country, and the world, on issues President Obama is expected to address in his speech. This is followed at 9pm by coverage of the speech itself, and then expanded coverage featuring reactions and analysis at 10:30pm.

Bloomberg TV — Bloomberg TV coverage of the 2014 State of the Union address will begin at 9pm on Jan. 28.

C-SPAN — C-SPAN will have a preview program to the 2014 State of the Union address live at 8pm, followed by live coverage of the speech itself at 9pm. Live coverage of the GOP response to the address is scheduled for 9:45pm, followed by viewer reaction to the State of the Union address live at 10pm.

C-SPAN2 — C-SPAN2’s coverage includes a live broadcast of the 2014 State of the Union address, followed by the Republican response at 9:45pm, and live Statuary Hall reaction to the address at 10pm.

CBS — CBS News coverage of the State of the Union address airs from 9-10:30pm on Jan. 28.

CNBC — CNBC’s coverage of the 2014 State of the Union address will be anchored by Kelly Evans and Carl Quintanilla from CNBC Global Headquarters in Engledwood Cliffs, NJ.

CNN — Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper will lead CNN’s live coverage of the State of the Union address, beginning Jan. 28 at 7pm. Guests joining the coverage include Obama biographer and journalist David Maraniss, former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau, former George W. Bush adviser Karen Hughes, and The New York Times op-ed columnist Paul Krugman. Throughout the evening, news and commentary will be provided by Candy Crowley, Gloria Borger, and Crossfire hosts Newt Gingrich, Stephanie Cutter, S.E. Cupp and Van Jones. John King will be at the “magic wall” to illustrate how the balance of power could shift with the 2014 midterm and gubernatorial elections. Late-night coverage will continue with State of the Union: Postgame with Jake Tapper, providing perspective from the evening’s address and Republican response. CNN en Español will also broadcast the presidential address, with correspondent Juan Carlos López offering post-analysis with a team of experts, and anchor Fernando del Rincón hosting a special presentation of Conclusiones.

FOX (broadcast) — FOX’s broadcast network will feature Shepard Smith of FOX News Channel anchoring separate live coverage of the 2014 State of the Union address beginning at 9pm. FOX News Sunday host Chris Wallace will join Smith to provide analysis of the address and the Republican response.

FOX Business Network (FBN) — FOX Business Network will present live coverage of President Obama’s 2014 State of the Union address beginning at 8pm. Neil Cavuto will anchor the coverage and will be joined by a number of prominent economists, business executives and political experts, along with FBN’s Peter Barnes and Rich Edson reporting live from Washington, DC. Following the address, FBN’s John Stossel will host a special edition of Stossel at 11pm, and FBN’s Kennedy will host a live edition of The Independents at 12am to provide a discussion in response to President Obama’s speech. FBN’s lineup on Jan. 28 is: Cavuto (8-9pm); State of the Union coverage (9-11pm); Stossel: State of the Union Reaction (11pm-12am), and The Independents (12-1am).

FOX News Channel (FNC) — FOX News Channel will present live coverage of the 2014 State of the Union address and the Republican response beginning at 8:55pm. Special Report’s Bret Baier will anchor the primetime coverage with contributions from a rotating team of commentators, including FNC contributors Charles Krauthammer, Kirsten Powers, George Will, and A.B. Stoddard. Chief White House correspondent Ed Henry and chief congressional correspondent Mike Emanuel will provide live reports from the White House and Capitol Hill, respectively. In addition, correspondent Shannon Bream will report on Bing Pulse results, highlighting the key moments of the address throughout the evening. FNC’s special programming on Jan. 28 features The O’Reilly Factor from 8-8:55pm; State of the Union address coverage from 8:55-11pm; and The Kelly File from 11pm-12am.

Link TV — Link TV will feature live coverage of the address starting at 9pm.

MSNBC — MSNBC’s coverage of the State of the Union and the Republican response begins Jan. 28 at 9pm, and is hosted by Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews, who will be joined by Chris Hayes, Rev. Al Sharpton and Steve Schmidt. Ed Schultz will be live from Washington, D.C. Matthews will anchor an additional live hour of coverage following the address, from 12am-1am.

NBC — NBC will have live coverage of the address, and the Republican response, Jan. 28 at 9pm, with Brian Williams anchoring the coverage. Williams will be joined by David Gregory, Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell, with Kelly O’Donnell inside the House chamber. NBC’s coverage will stream live on NBCNews.com.

PBS — For the first time since being named PBS NewsHour co-anchors, Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff will lead PBS’ live broadcast coverage of the speech and the Republican response at 9pm on Jan. 28. They are joined by political analysts Mark Shields and David Brooks. Live-stream video of both speeches will be available at the PBS Newshour website.
