When & Where Super Bowl XLVIII is Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey. Kickoff is approximately 6:30pm ET. It’s the first Super Bowl hosted jointly by two states.

XLVIII In Regular Numbers 48.

Who’s In It? The AFC champion Denver Broncos, led by quarterback Peyton Manning, will take on the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks, led by quarterback Russell Wilson and the NFL’s No. 1 defense.

TV Network FOX airs the game (and hours upon hours of pregame). Joe Buck handles play-by-play with analyst Troy Aikman.

Let It Snow This is the first Super Bowl played outdoors at a cold-weather site, and the 2014 Farmer’s Almanac predicts “possible heavy winter weather” in the area for early February. The previous coldest outdoor Super Bowl was Super Bowl VI in New Orleans in January 1972, with a kickoff temperature of 39 degrees Fahrenheit.

Reasons To Stay Home If a snowstorm doesn’t make it tough to get around, unprecedented security measures might, with radiation-detecting helicopters and boats, counterterrorism camera cars, heavily armed police and lots more. Times Square will be on lockdown and several blocks of Broadway will be closed to vehicle traffic. There are only three ways to enter the stadium grounds: Fan Express charter buses, NJ Transit and vehicles with parking passes. That means no taxis, no limos and no walking. Want to break out the grill for a parking-lot tailgate party? Fuggedaboutit.

Commercialism The average price of a 30-second TV spot during the game sold for $4 million. The Greek Yogurt Wars have begun with Chobani buying its first Super Bowl ad and Oikos reentering the fray. GoDaddy says there will be no “innuendo” in this year’s ads. There will be no talking-baby ads this year, at least not from E-Trade. And expect most of the ads to again be leaked online early to build buzz for the brand and ruin any element of surprise for you.

National Anthem Opera star Renee Fleming will sing the national anthem. Queen Latifah will sing “America the Beautiful” during the pregame show.

Halftime Show Grammy-winning pop artist Bruno Mars performs at halftime (with recently added special guests the Red Hot Chili Peppers). Named Billboard Artist of the Year for 2013, his most recognizable singles include “Just the Way You Are,” “Marry You,” “Grenade,” “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man,” though we suspect a large segment of the populace couldn’t identify him out of a two-person lineup.

After Party The coveted time slots after the game on FOX will go to new episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl. Adam Sandler guests on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, while music icon Prince will reportedly appear as himself on New Girl.
