Duck Dynasty: Oldest brother Alan Robertson to join A&E hit show in Season 4

As well as devoted Duck Dynasty viewers think they know the Robertson family, there has been one key member missing from the show during its first three increasingly successful seasons. But that all changes in Season 4 (slated to premiere in August) when Alan Robertson — the oldest son of Phil and Kay — finally joins the cast, the New York Post reports.

It’s not as though Alan is a black sheep (although he probably should think about growing a beard, right?). He travels with his famous family on speaking engagements, where he’s already had uncomfortable brushes with fame, including an over-eager fan who followed him into the restroom. It was this kind of intrusion that he believed the fame would bring that kept the 47-year-old minister out of the family spotlight for so long.

But he says the chance to share his Christian faith with such a massive audience (the Season 3 finale of Duck Dynasty netted an A&E record 9.6 million viewers back in April) was too good to pass up.

“What I do for our church — you see, it’s a pretty good-sized church — impacts a lot of people, but because of my association with the show, I’ll get to minister to a lot more people,” Alan tells the Post. “Any person that’s an evangelist, that’s what you want to do, so I had to give this up for something possibly bigger.”

It’s a good time to be a Robertson, as Phil’s memoir Happy, Happy, Happy has been running roughshod over the New York Times bestseller list, and three more books are slated for the rest of the year: Si’s memoir, Si-cology (September), Dynasty Devotional (October), and a Miss Kay cookbook in November. (Maybe it’ll include her pirducken dish.)

Oh, and don’t forget the Christmas album, Duck the Halls, also coming out in October.
