Beautiful Creatures This supernatural romance, based on the best-selling young-adult fantasy series, takes place in a Southern town where dark secrets are about to come out, as a young man finds he can’t fight his attraction to a new girl, who is trying to deal with powers she can’t control. The Last Stand Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his return as a big-screen leading man, playing a disgraced LAPD narcotics officer turned small-town sheriff who gets called back into the big time when a drug kingpin escapes federal custody and passes through his town. Open Road A young Brazilian artist (Camilla Belle) flees her regimental life to head to the U.S. to search for her father and makes a connection. She takes a waitressing job and ends up bonding with a friendly highway patrol officer. Also stars Colin Egglesfield, Andy Garcia (TV-14, 1:26) 5/21
Parker Jason Statham is the latest actor to bring Donald E. Westlake’s hard-boiled hero to life, playing a thief with a unique code of ethics who is out for revenge against the crew that double-crossed him. Also stars Jennifer Lopez, Michael Chiklis (R, 1:58) 5/21
Side Effects Steven Soderbergh (Magic Mike) directs this thriller about a young woman whose world deteriorates after she’s prescribed a new drug to treat her anxiety, only to find it has disturbing side effects. Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum (R, 1:46) 5/21
