FX to re-run “The Americans” Episode 9 online after listings error cuts off DVRs

Episode 9 of the FX drama series The Americans, titled “Safe House,” originally aired on the network this past Wednesday, April 3. It aired from 10pm-11:07pm ET/PT. Unfortunately, due to a listings error by FX publicity, the correct listings information was not properly disseminated to TV listings services that provide information to media outlets, cable and satellite providers. As a result of this error, electronic guides that trigger the run times of DVRs incorrectly recorded the total running time of one hour (10pm-11pm ET/PT), therefore cutting off the final seven minutes of the episode.

To atone for this, FX will be posting The Americans Episode 9, “Safe House,” online, at http://vod.fxnetworks.com/watch/theamericans/24079939847.The episode will be available here until May 15, 2013.

“The error is regrettable and I apologize to all the loyal fans of The Americans who were cheated out of the full viewing experience of one of the most important episodes so far this season,” said John Solberg, Senior Vice President of Media Relations, FX Networks. “Unfortunately, mistakes happen and this happened to be a very unfortunate time for this kind of mistake. I hope the viewers whose DVRs failed to capture the final seven minutes of the episode will take advantage of the opportunity to watch the encore run on FXNetworks.com and see the spectacular ending.”

In “Safe House,” Philip and Elizabeth are put to the test when a routine mission goes horribly wrong. Stan and the FBI are pushed to their limit when one of their own goes missing.

Next week’s episode of The Americans is called “Only You,” and airs April 10 from 10pm-11:03pm ET/PT (in case your DVR says otherwise). In this episode, Stan pursues a lead that puts him on the trail to one of Gregory’s crew members, closing the gap between him and Elizabeth, and reigniting some of the deepest conflicts between her and Philip.

  1. I paid $1.99 from Amazon.com to watch the full episode (not realizing it would be made available for free) and had to sit through promos for three other FX shows to watch it. Totally lame.

  2. To Drew Onufer: 120 million people may own iPads, but how many of them (including yourself) also have a computer that they can easily watch this episode online with. If you are going to quote statistics have them make a significant point.

  3. Nice job Fox. You put The Americans episode online, but it won’t play on iPads. It requires a Flash player. For the 120 million people who own iPads, thanks for the middle finger. Serving your iPad- owning customers is not difficult. The technology exists. Step 1. Get your execs to ditch their Blackberries for iPhones. Step 2. Count the types of devices people use.

  4. FX needs to fix the run time for its scheduled cable re-run of this episode next Tuesday morning. It is now scheduled for 2:00 am to 2:03 am! Many of us don’t want to watch this show on an Ipad or a laptop.

    • That 3 min episode is not an error. It’s a 3 min review show. FX has these for several of their shows. I know Justified does it as well.
