“Best Funeral Ever,” “Husband Hunters” part of new 2013-2014 TLC lineup

Last year TLC brought us Honey Boo Boo, next up we can look forward to the Best Funeral Ever, Husband Hunters, Ballroom Blitz and a variety of other culture shockers. TLC makes no apologies for calling out their 2013-2014 programming lineup for what it is, claiming they will continue to open doors to “big personalities” and “can’t miss moments” that are remarkable yet relatable.

“TLC prides itself on telling authentic stories and going into the hidden cultures that spark conversations, evoke emotion and open eyes to a different way of life,” said Amy Winter, General Manager for TLC, in a press release. “Our upcoming slate of new and returning series moves the network forward further with the compelling storytelling, real-life moments and trusted experts that our viewers will want to welcome into their homes, and tell their friends about.”

Of the 52 new or returning series slated for the rest of the year, here are the details on eight new series coming to TLC.

Best Funeral Ever part of TLC 2013-2014 programming lineup.1. Best Funeral Ever
The buzzed-about special is now returning as a full-fledged series. While most of us find death as a time of mourning, a funeral home in Houston is looking to change that. Best Funeral Ever goes inside the Dallas-based Golden Gate Funeral Home where John Beckwith Jr. and his staff organize the most unique funeral ceremonies in the country, proving once again that, while you may be in a casket, it can still be fantastic! (Winter 2013)

2. Alaskan Women Looking For Love (tentative title)
I know. You probably thought every woman had to be hitched with such a high ratio of males in the Last Frontier right? Well, turns out there are five women who have had little to no luck finding a man in their Alaskan hometowns so they pack it up and head to warmer weather — Miami — in hopes of starting an exotic romance. (Fall 2013)

3. Ballroom Blitz (tentative title)
Perhaps this will be TLC’s version of Dance Moms, but in a more classy, sophisticated way — after all, it is ballroom dancing, right? Whether a billionaire or someone struggling to make ends meet, these dance floor devotees will do anything it takes to prepare for their competitions and win it all. (Winter 2013)

3. Cajun Paranormal (tentative title)
Ghostbusters meet Swamp People? Kind of, but not really. This series will take viewers inside the world of Louisiana Spirits Paranormal Investigations, a business founded in 2005 by Brad Duplechien and Brandon Thomas because they are fascinated by ghosts, hauntings and other forms of paranormal phenomena … and, they had nothing better to do on the weekends. Now, these mismatched Southerners operate the largest paranormal investigation company in Louisiana. They have tackled over 500 cases and still haven’t killed each other. (Summer/Fall 2013)

4. Family S.O.S. with Jo Frost
TV’s favorite Supernanny Jo Frost is back on U.S. television in an all-new series, where she opens the door to families that are in crisis and need help bringing harmony back to their homes. No longer just helping correct the “naughty toddler” phase, Frost shares her respected advice as she helps families of all sizes and structures. From rebellious teenagers causing conflict to bullying at school to battling parents on the edge of divorce, she’s set to tackle the hot-button issues that many families faces today. (Tuesdays, beginning May 28)

5. Husband Hunters (tentative title)
Look out single men, these women are on a serious mission! They have the dress, the venue and the cake picked out, in fact, almost every detail is in place, TLC explains, except for the groom. For these focused women their dream is getting married, and finding a husband has become their top priority. (Winter 2013)

6. My Teen Is Pregnant And So Am I
OK, sorry but this scenario has to totally stink. But leave it to TLC for finding enough teens and mom after they aired their special of the same name into a full-fledge series. TLC offers a captivating look inside the lives of mama and daughter as two generations of women share this life-changing experience together. And as their bellies grow, so does the tension. Through tears and turmoil, joy and heartbreak, these mothers and daughters have nine months to fight through their battles and learn to lean on each other while they come to terms with their extraordinary new lives. (Summer/Fall 2013)

7. The Good Buy Girls
Brook Roberts and Tara Gray are two pageant girls turned home shopping hosts. They are sharp-tongued, ambitious and a little cutthroat – a duo that will stop at nothing to take their struggling home shopping network, DSNtv, to the next level (DSNtv is touted as being the premier broadcast network for home shopping. “We sell high quality low priced diamonds, natural gemstones, jewelry, fine art and much more.) The series follows Brook and Tara as they cultivate new products and do everything they can to sell their way to the top. Nothing will discourage these girls — not even their stubborn boss or unconventional co-workers. (Summer 2013)

8. Women of Homicide
Veronica Mars fans will appreciate this new series that goes undercover to follow real female homicide detectives across the country, observing them on the job as they work to investigate the cases that plague their cities and catch the criminals behind these crimes. (Winter 2013)
