And we’re back squirrel-friends! RuPaul’s Drag Race has returned from their brief, no-apparent reason hiatus. Apparently we want to space this season out to give us an end-of-April wrap party.
Ivy’s gone & Ru shows up to randomly make the dragtestants cry. Ok, I’m all for suspended disbelief, but come on Ru. This mini-challenge totally came off as ‘which one of you hasn’t cried/opened up something really personal & painful yet – ok time for Detox to cry!’ Sigh. I appreciate getting to know the cast & their backstories, but these random confessionals out of nowhere could be relegated to the back room next season.

Apparently the sharing circle/crying challenge was to get 2 winners to form teams for a Telenovela challenge. Yes, crying is a valuable skill when doing Telenovelas but meh – the ‘serious’ mini-challenge doesn’t really mesh with a funny main challenge.
The Telenovela teams end up being RolAskaToxx and Alyssa, Jinkx and Coco. So the team of girls that have too much fun vs the team of awkward passive-agressiveness. Alaska seems to spend much of her time trying to get Roxxxy and Detox to focus. Alyssa spends most of her time making faces in the mirror and trying on Jinkx’ clothes. Spoiler alert: they don’t fit. Coco is wondering why Alyssa the pageant girl didn’t bring more clothes.
The Telenovelas are funny – and the girls get Wilmer Valderrama as their male lead. RolAskaToxx doesn’t seem to get thrown, but Coco gets majorly distracted by Fez’ hotness. As with most main challenges, it looks like everyone gets criticism so it’s “hard to tell” who does well.
Except we all know that Alaska and Jinkx are the strongest going into the final runway. Duh.
In getting ready for that final runway, Detox and Roxxxy talk about Detox’s boyfriend. We learn that this was her EX boyfriend & he sounds like a complete ass – stalking and threatening her. Not cool. Detox also says she hasn’t had therapy to deal with his death. Girl, after what you told Roxxxy, you needed therapy to deal with him when he was alive. Seriously, get some help girl. Based on what they showed on RuPaul’s Drag Race last night, he doesn’t sound worth your headspace.
In the final runway, all the girls go traditional Latina, except Jinkx. She goes Day of the Dead realness. It’s a risk – and it pays off all day long. This is what we get from Ru:
Another highlight for the final runway is Alyssa. Santino declares that her dress is the worst he’s seen on Drag Race in 5 seasons. Ouch. I’m not entirely with him on that, but I’m also not going to look into Drag Race history to verify that. Alyssa gets super-defensive and goes off on a tangent about how she’ll lip synch every night if she has to.
The lip-synch for your life moment is one the show has been hyping all season – Alyssa vs Coco. Part 2. The Miss Gay USA redux. Alyssa relies on her dancing, naturally. Coco relies on her awesome orange jumpsuit with enormous sleeves and the fact that she can lip-synch like a crazy woman. Only one will continue on in the hopes of becoming America’s Next Drag Superstar. And that person is:

Coco. It’s the end of the road for Alyssa Edwards. It’s time for her Elimination Lunch with Michelle Visage. The great rivalry is over for the season. It’ll be interesting to see how Coco does without her rival. Will she flourish? Will she sink because her nemesis is gone? What y’all think? Sound off in the comments below!

Ru’s reaction to Jinkx’s runway look was priceless, and I was surprised the judges really liked it. Jinkx takes risks that really pay off, and it makes sense why the other ladies are threatened by her. I have to give credit to Ru for giving us one of the best seasons ever.
