Tracy Morgan still in critical condition following car wreck

CNN reported today that Tracy Morgan (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock) remained in critical condition following an early Saturday morning accident in which the limo van in which he was riding was hit by a tractor trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike. The crash killed another passenger in the van, comedian James McNair (a.k.a. Jimmy Mack). Injured in the wreck were comedians Ardie Fuqua and Harris Stanton, along with another man, Jeffrey Millea. Morgan himself suffered broken ribs, a broken nose, broken leg and broken femur.

Morgan’s publicist Lewis Kay said yesterday that “[Tracy] has been more responsive, which is an incredibly encouraging sign.” Kay also said that Morgan underwent surgery on his leg yesterday, and that “we expect him to remain in the hospital for several weeks.”

According to Kay, Morgan’s family “is tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

The driver of the truck, Kevin Roper, turned himself in to police and is charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.
