RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 continues with a final farewell to Serena Chacha. That didn’t last long. We’re finally getting down to the T of what happened in the Miss Gay America 2010 pageant. Oh, not at the beginning of the episode, of course. Give it time girls, give it time. We must first tease that we’re going to get more info, before we just get on with it.
First we need a mini-challenge, and this one is fabulous. It’s the junior drag superstar pageant. The contestants are child-sized mannequins that need to be painted in 15 minutes. Some queens take it seriously; other queens go camp. Of course camp wins – the team of Alaska and Lineysha takes it with their foul-mouthed mannequin Lil’ Pound Cake. You’re not my dad and you never will be.
So now Alaska & Lineysha are the 2 captains of teams for the main challenge. These 2 teams will have to come up with a show for kids & kids at heart. Monica Beverly Hillz is not looking forward to this particular challenge. Foreshadowing! Subtle.
Alaska’s team revolves around the barnyard. Alaska’s team seems to do well – it’s very inspired by Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. Alaska even looks a bit like Pee Wee. We don’t yet know if that will work well for her (since she’s not so much in drag), but it was funny. Most of the team does well, except for a few. Vivienne has really low energy; Monica keeps forgetting her lines, even though they’re in the book in front of her face.
Next it’s time for Team Lineysha. They are doing something with ventriloquist dolls. And banana splits? They don’t seem to be as funny or as coordinated, but we’ll see what the final product looks like on the runway. The editing is really setting us up to expect Team Alaska to win.
While getting ready for the runway (theme pink!) Coco needs to get something off her chest with Alyssa. Coco gets really emotional & tells Alyssa she was torn up about what happened. Alyssa isn’t feeling to sorry for Coco. To sum up: Coco had to step in when Alyssa was deemed ineligible to continue her reign as Miss Gay America 2010. Alyssa is hurt Coco stepped in to fill her role (even though she was contractually obligated to) and Coco is hurt cause, I don’t know, people were mean to her or something. And that’s where we leave it. I don’t think we’re done with this subject in RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5. Unless one of them goes home tonight. Foreshadowing!
Because the runway theme is pink, there’s a lot of it on the runway. Some of the more unique looks are Jinkx and her French courtesan look. Alaska’s dress would look blood splattered, but it’s pink, so it’s fun! She’s going to get read for not being in drag during her team’s kids show, but her team’s performance was so much stronger, I don’t see that being a big issue. I mean, yes, the show is RuPaul’s Drag Race, but she did have makeup on.
Honey Mahogany, Ivy Winters, Jade Jolie, Alyssa Edwards and Lineysha Sparx are all in the mediocre middle. Alaska, Detox, Roxxxy Andrews and Jinkx Monsoon get positive feedback. Monica Beverly Hillz, Vivienne Pinay, Coco Montrese are in the bottom. Coco has a little mini-breakdown about how haaard it is to be around Alyssa. Not so dramatic Coco.
The winner of this week’s challenge is Detox. In the bottom is Monica Beverly Hillz and Coco Montrese. Vivienne Pinay was sent to safety with a warning that she needs to stop relying on pretty. In this week’s lip synch for their lives, Coco completely turns it out and Monica Beverly Hillz just falls flat. This time it’s Monica’s turn to sashay away.
Was that the right call? Was this episode hilarious yet obvious? Is romance blossoming between Detox & Roxxxy Andrews? Sound off below!

Love PhiPhi Ohara in the new Absolute vodka ad
I think those ads have been brilliant, but I wish they had done more of them. They’re getting a little repetitive. It’d be nice if they moved the storyline along, or interviewed more queens.
