The CW announces early pickups for Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural

Not surprisingly, The CW today announced early renewals for next season of three of its hottest series — Arrow, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. All three will be returning in Fall 2013.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz, “and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that.” Pedowitz also expained that The CW has not only been happy with how all three shows have performed on-air, but digitally and socially, as well.

Arrow became a breakout hit this season, posting The CW’s best series premiere since 2009, and it currently stands as The CW’s most-watched show (4.3 million), according to the network. It will be back for Season 2 in the fall.

Heading into its fifth season next fall, The Vampire Diaries remains The CW’s highest-rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34. The Vampire Diaries also continues to be a top performer digitally and socially.

Since being paired with Arrow on Wednesdays this year, Supernatural — which will start Season 9 this fall — has seen a big uptick in its ratings from last season, according to The CW, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.
