GSN honors legendary “Family Feud” host Richard Dawson with tribute and marathon

Famed actor and TV host Richard Dawson passed away in Los Angeles this past Saturday, June 2, at the age of 79. While Dawson — born Colin Lionel Emm in Gosport, Hampshire, England — is recognized as a mostly comedic actor for his roles in the 1965-71 series Hogan’s Heroes and the cult-classic 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film The Running Man, he may be most remembered for his work on TV game shows throughout the 1970s and ’80s, on both the Match Game and, especially, the original incarnation of Family Feud.

To celebrate Dawson’s work as a host, GSN will be spotlighting some of his most memorable moments emceeing “the Feud” and as a panelist on Match Game, both outlets that allowed him to put his quick wit and talent for improv — as well as his flirtatious way with the ladies — on full display.

GSN’s Richard Dawson Marathon airs Thursday, June 7, from 7-11pm ET, and will include such moments as when Dawson first meets his future wife, Gretchen, who was a contestant on Family Feud; Dawson’s triumphant return to the Feud in 1994; and the infamous Family Feud “September” episode (see video below), when Dawson had to stop the Fast Money clock because of his uncontrollable laughter when a guest responded to the question, “During what month of pregnancy does a woman begin to look pregnant?” with the answer, “September.”

“GSN would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the Dawson family,” says Amy Introcaso-Davis, GSN’s executive vice president of programming. “Richard was one of the most memorable and beloved game-show talents in the history of the genre, and we at GSN are proud to spotlight his talents with this special marathon and tribute. His wit, his style and his genuine rapport with guests can never be duplicated, and fans will have a chance to relive some of his greatest moments.”

Sounds like a Number One Answer to me.
