VOD Spotlight: Adam Sandler does double duty in “Jack and Jill”

In Jack and Jill, Adam Sandler plays family guy Jack, who dreads the arrival of his needy twin sister Jill (also played by Sandler) for her annual Thanksgiving visit. For the talented comic, the dual role wasn’t that huge a challenge, but having Jack and Jill in the same scene was challenging for the filmmakers. For assistance, Sandler and director Dennis Dugan turned to Dean Cundey, the cinematographer who shot The Parent Trap and Jurassic Park.Adam Sandler stars as twins in "Jack and Jill"

“Sometimes, it’s a fairly simple process, as simple as a split,” Cundey says. But there are more complicated processes, as well. “We’ll move the camera, have them touch each other, hand each other objects — it’s a great way to keep the audience engaged,” Cundey says.

Adding to the realism was a computer-controlled camera, programmed to do the same movements multiple times. A good example is the scene in which Al Pacino (playing himself) falls for Jill at a basketball game. Along with Sandler in the dual role, there are players and the crowd in the stands — all seamlessly merged in the film.

“Jack and Jill” is available starting March 6 on Video On Demand. Check your cable system for availability.
