Winter X Games air Jan. 26-29 on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC

The Winter X Games Aspen ’12 take place at Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., Jan. 26-29, as more than 200 of the world’s premier winter action-sports athletes — including Shaun White, Kelly Clark, Lindsey Jacobellis and others — compete in such events as Snowboard SuperPipe, Ski Big Air and Snowmobile SnoCross. For the first time at the Winter X Games, the Snowboard Slopestyle competitions will be held under lights in prime time. A wide offering of Winter X Games Aspen 2012 content will be distributed simultaneously across multiple devices January 26-29. Winter X Games content will be available via television, smartphones, tablets and online through digital and social media platforms. By enhancing and adding dimension to the Winter X Games experience, fans will have the opportunity to watch all the action, get an inside look at the event, and establish a two-way conversation with ESPN, athletes and other viewers.


ESPN will televise 16 hours of live HD programming on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. In addition to live competition, Jeep X Center will air nightly on ESPN2. ESPN 3D will deliver 25 hours of live Winter X Games action. ESPN3 will carry more than 23 hours of live competition including more than nine hours of exclusive coverage to fans who are subscribers of an affiliated provider. The event will also be televised in more than 192 countries and territories to more than 232 million homes.

On Thursday, January 26, from 9 – 11 p.m. ET, ESPN will debut X Cast. The companion screen offering will be simultaneously streamed during each Winter X Games telecast. X Cast will feature 16 hours of highlights and expert analysis, behind-the-scenes access, two-way interaction with other online viewers and interviews with premiere Winter X Games athletes. X Cast will be available on X Games.com and multiple X Games social media platforms, including the Facebook “Live” tab, YouTube Live on the official X Games YouTube channel, Google +, and embedded on multiple sponsor, athlete and brand pages associated with Winter X Games Aspen.

Winter X Games Aspen 2012 will be hosted by Sal Masekela for all 16 hours of live HD coverage on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson will return to host X Center nightly on ESPN2. ESPN 3D will telecast 25 hours of live Winter X Games action. ESPN3 will carry more than 23 hours of live competition including more than nine hours of exclusive coverage to fans who are subscribers of an affiliated provider.

As increasing numbers of fans now watch live sporting events on television, while concurrently connected to the internet, X Cast will offer viewers a secondary screen experience with additional access to what is happening on site at Winter X Games Aspen. Inside X will be streamed during the non-telecast hours and will be a resource for fans at home to stay connected with Winter X Games action when the event is not being broadcast on the air.

Winter X Games Athlete Chat Series
Hosted by Brandon Graham, the Athlete Chat Series presented by Texas Peteis a 30-minute webcast series, featuring special athlete guests each week, competition previews, first looks at courses and real-time fan interaction.

Leading up to Winter X Games Aspen, the show will be streamed every Tuesday at 2 p.m. from January 3 through January 24. After the kickoff of Winter X Games Aspen, the Athlete Chat Series presented by Texas Pete will transition to daily highlight shows that will stream from 7-7:30 p.m.  The show will be streamed live on X Games.com, multiple X Games social media platforms including the Facebook “Live” tab, YouTube Live on the official X Games YouTube channel, Google +, and embedded on multiple sponsor, athlete and brand pages associated with Winter X Games Aspen.

XGames.com/realsnow will be the on-line home of Winter X Games Real Snow.  With the return of Real Snow, eight of the world’s best urban snowboarders submitted 60-second video parts for a shot at $50,000 and a Winter X Games gold medal. A panel of judges will pick the winning part after the videos air on ESPN and ABC on Saturday, January 28. The snowboarder who gets the most fan votes will also receive $50,000. The fan favorite will be announced on television and XGames.com on Saturday, Jan. 28.

ESPNW.com will feature live ESPN3 simulcasts of all women’s specific competitions. ESPNW.com will stream live coverage of the Women’s Ski Slopestyle final on January 26 at 3:30 p.m., Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle final on January 27 at 3:30 p.m., Women’s Snowboard Superpipe final on January 27 at 10:45 p.m., Women’s Ski Superpipe final on January 28 at 1p.m.

ESPN On Demand – TV and Mobile will have Winter X Games Classix available leading into the new season, and will also make available highlight shows and best of shows from all four days of the event.

International

Outside the United States, the Winter X Games will be delivered to more than 232 million homes and will be telecast live to 192 countries and territories, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, Mexico, Middle East and New Zealand.

In addition, the event will be syndicated to 41 countries around the world, reaching more than 67 million homes. ESPN will produce 10 one-hour syndication shows for networks to air following the event.

The X Games will also be simulcast on ESPN’s international broadband platforms in 13 countries.

More than 16 hours of live coverage will air on ESPN’s broadband platforms in Australia, Europe and Latin America.

Music
