BBC America’s “Reveals” series looks at “My Big Breasts and Me”

When most networks talk about shows in development, they are talking about forthcoming programs to be aired. At BBC America, it can mean something entirely different.

Tonight at 9pm ET, BBC America’s cup runneth over. As part of the network’s “Reveals” series, it is re-running the documentary My Big Breasts and Me, which we should make clear is not a prequel or sequel to the hit movie Marley & Me.

No, as the title states, this titillating expose examines the downside of having breasts that are even too large by British standards (the country allegedly boasts the largest breasts in all of Europe). While that might seem ridiculous to women who feel undersized — and every man alive — the three women interviewed here say they are not happy about being defined by their cup size.

Saying no thanks for the mammaries might seem ungrateful to some, but these women give compelling reasons as to why they resent what so many other females wish they had. But the adage “looks aren’t everything” seems to apply here, especially when you factor in everything from medical problems to being stereotyped both personally and professionally.

One interviewee wants to use exercise and alternative therapy to downsize her chest, another is reluctantly exploring reduction surgery to cure her back pain and the third (a young fashion student) believes she won’t be taken seriously unless she has smaller breasts.

Some cynics might claim BBC America is milking the chest topic after it also aired My Small Breasts and I and 100 Men Own My Breasts as part of its “Reveals” series, but there is an educational element to all of these documentaries that can be helpful for women and men alike.

And anything that makes the Boob Tube smarter can only be a good thing in my book.
