Bravo’s upcoming “Platinum Hit” hits South By Southwest

By Lori Acken

Platinum Hit, Bravo’s answer to American Idol for folks who write the songs the whole world (or at least someone who might make it a chart-topper) sings is bringing it’s show to Austin’s South By Southwest music frenzy, even before the series’ TV debut.

Hosted by Jewel and judged by erstwhile Idol judge Kara DioGuardi along with a plethora of celebrity guests, Platinum Hit follows 12 musicians as they battle through weekly challenges that require them to write and perform lyrics from multiple musical genres. In the end, one ultimate hitmaker will write themselves a musical ticket to  a $100,000 cash prize, a publishing deal with Sony and BMI Songwriters, The Writing Camp, and a recording deal with RCA/Jive.

To build excitement for its newest competition series, Bravo will host a SXSW panel titled “Platinum Hit — How to Become the Next Big Hitmaker”  on Wednesday, March 16.  Hit host Jewel and hitmaker Evan Bogart, who has penned chart-toppers for Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Rihanna, will share their songwriting experiences and expertise alongside Keith Naftaly, SVP of A&R for RCA/Jive Label Group at Sony Music Entertainment, and Jenn Levy, Vice President of Development and Production for Bravo Media. The panel will take place at the Austin Convention Center, Room 18ABC at 3:30pm CT and will also feature an exclusive sneak peek at the series.

But the fun doesn’t end there. Social-media savvy music fan who unlock Bravo’s Platinum Hit badge on Foursquare, beginning March 16,  will be eligible to attend an intimate event sponsored by Foursquare and SPIN that features a performance and audience Q&A with Jewel.  The first 90 Platinum Hit badge holders to arrive at the SPIN Loft in Austin, Texas on March 17 take part in the private event.
