HBO begins “24/7 Penguins/Capitals” Dec. 15

HBO Sports and the NHL are teaming up to provide an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals — two rivals who will meet in the NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day — in a new four-part reality series. 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic debuts on HBO Dec. 15 at 10pm ET/PT and airs Wednesdays through Jan. 5. The show chronicles the highs and lows of both the Penguins and Capitals as they build up to their game outdoors in Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field on Jan. 1. Viewers will get in-depth access and interviews with coaches, players (including Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby and Washington’s Alex Ovechkin) and front-office personnel as the Pens and Caps battle through their December schedules, which includes a matchup between the teams Dec. 23 on the Capitals’ home ice.

“Taking our reality series 24/7 into the world of the National Hockey League is a perfect fit,” says Ross Greenburg, president of HBO Sports. “The 24/7 franchise is fashioned on larger-than-life personalities, engaging storylines and unrestricted access. With Sidney Crosby leading the Penguins and Alex Ovechkin leading the Capitals, we have all the ingredients for a dynamic show that will take viewers deep inside professional hockey and set the stage for the Winter Classic.”
