What’s It All About? Comedian and 12-time Emmy nominee Joy Behar’s going to be doing a lot of talking this fall. In addition to her cohosting role on The View, Behar will go solo as host of her own talk show seven days a week. HLN execs say Behar is a perfect fit for their newly branded network (it used to be CNN Headline News) that focuses on “news and views” and programming that is helmed by passionate personalities with strong opinions. Executive vice president of CNN Worldwide Ken Jautz says of Behar: “She’s got an opinion on just about everything and she loves to discuss it, all the more so with people who disagree with her. She manages to do this with a wit and a humor that reflects her background as a standup comedian, with insight that underscores her wide range of interests, and really with experience and a very compelling interview style that we think makes for great television.”
Not surprising, seeing as Behar’s a veteran of radio and the talk show format. She plans to distinguish herself from her competition by giving a different perspective to top news stories. “Think of the news story of the day and we’ll think of maybe somebody who is a little bit on the outside of the main story to give some kind of a different point of view on the story that you don’t necessarily see on other shows,” Behar says. “For instance, instead of interviewing Bernie Madoff, let’s have his secretary on. Anybody who is in the news that can tell us something that we don’t hear on another show, that’s one great guest.”
In addition, Behar promises to find adversaries to discuss topics with as well. “I really would like the show to be a conglomeration of different opinions. I don’t want people on who agree with me. There is nothing more boring than that. I like people to disagree with me, to disagree with each other, to have lively discussions, to have spirited debates about all sorts of things.”
