At presstime, a polished-up pilot was still a work in progress, offering hope that some early, icky moments — gratuitous boob and vibrator references, and a cherub-faced toddler way too familiar with the word “slut!” — may get buffed out. Because once the story gets going, Eastwick — ABC’s series version of The Witches of Eastwick, the best-selling Updike novel turned celebrated 1987 film — gets pretty entertaining. While the names have been changed and the roles a bit jumbled, the story’s essentially the same: Three restless women in a New England village get their supernatural on when the mysterious Darryl Van Horne comes to town. The scene-stealer is Lipstick Jungle’s Price as bumbly, tongue-tied journalist Joanna; while an absolutely lush-looking Romijn plays widowed artist Roxie. Fun fact for movie buffs: Former Felicia, Veronica Cartwright, returns as the local busybody.
